SCAD teams with Hands On Schools to help transform 100 school communities

ATLANTA — On Aug. 9 students and faculty members from the Savannah College of Art and Design will join Hands On Schools in Atlanta to kick off an innovative revitalization program that will provide a replicable model for parents and community members to use in order to stimulate positive change in their schools.

Students from SCAD’s School of Building Arts helped develop the Hands On School Box, which includes a how-to manual and tool kit designed to provide resources, instruction and tools necessary to bring about measurable change in local schools. The School Box will provide instructions for community groups across the country that wish to support the renewal of their schools.

In addition to the launch of the toolbox on Thursday, SCAD-Savannah architecture and interior design students will implement their design ideas at the John F. Kennedy School in Atlanta as part of the campaign launch.

The partnership’s goal is to transform 100 school communities over the next two years.
