4/25/2008 Nearly 48 percent of employers at SCAD Job and Internship Fair plan to offer positions to students SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design office of career services held its annual Job and Internship Fair April 4 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, 1 International Dr., Savannah, Ga.
According to a follow-up survey, nearly 48 percent of employers who attended said they planned to offer jobs or internships to students as a result of the fair. Another 47.6 percent said they possibly would hire SCAD students as interns or employees.
Two weeks after the event, six students already have job or internship offers from Cartoon Network, Mullen Advertising, Abercrombie & Fitch, and JCPenney. Sequential art senior Meredith McClaren will be a character art intern this summer at Cartoon Network, Atlanta, Ga. Advertising design senior Jonathan Calderon and graphic design seniors Deborah Cilino and Caroline Crosier will intern this summer at Mullen Advertising, Winston-Salem, N.C. Abigail Siegel (B.F.A., fibers, 2008) landed a position with Abercrombie & Fitch, New Albany, Ohio, as an assistant textile designer for the company’s new women's intimates line. And fashion M.F.A. candidate Rebecca Greywall will be working as a designer for JCPenney, Plano, Texas.
Approximately 1,750 students and alumni from SCAD-Savannah and SCAD-Atlanta attended the fair. Representatives from 119 employers — including Pixar, Digital Domain, Gensler, Electrolux, Gulfstream, Turner Broadcasting, Fisher-Price, Nordstrom, Frog Design, Activision, Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters, BCBGMAXAZRIA and HOK Architects — interviewed students, viewed portfolios and discussed career opportunities at their companies.
Within six months of completing their degree programs, 88 percent of students who graduated from SCAD in 2007 had found jobs in their fields.
