Academic Advising

Academic advising is provided to students in SCAD-eLearning programs to assist in the development of educational plans and career goals and to relate these goals to academic offerings at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Professional staff and faculty advisers assist students with course selection and professional development on a regular basis and help guide students toward fulfillment of the requirements for graduation.

Academic Advisers and SCAD e-Learners

Online access to 141 research databases is available to students and includes Art Abstracts, Art Index Retrospective, ArtBibliographies Modern, Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, AP Photo Archive, Bibliography of the History of Art, CQ Researcher, Design and Applied Arts Index, the Literature Resource and others.

Writing Center

The Writing Center offers students, faculty and staff individualized and small-group assistance with all aspects of the writing process, including prewriting strategies, structuring ideas, developing a thesis statement and other projects. Students benefit from a more tailored attention from consultants, making the student-led approach a key factor in successful consultations. The central aim at the Writing Center is to help students become more confident, effective and independent writers.

Off-campus Programs

The Savannah College of Art and Design offers off-campus programs that provide students with the opportunity to further develop an in-depth understanding of their individual courses of study while earning college credit. Some programs focus on specific academic and studio disciplines, while others feature a variety of study options. Faculty members direct studies in the United States and abroad.

Off-campus programs allow students to gain a more vivid perspective of art, architecture and design, enhancing their total educational experience. Before departure, participants attend group and individual meetings to familiarize themselves with the area and culture they will visit, and establish plans and goals for study. Upon return, students continue their explorations by completing academic journals, sketchbooks, research papers and/or art or performance projects.
